Location:
|
Brand
location is required as part of the brand application. Sheep
brands may be registered for the left shoulder, left hip,
righ shoulder or right hip. Cattle or Buffalo may be branded
on the left shoulder, rib or hip or on the right shoulder,
rib or hip. Horses and mules may be registered with the
following brand locations: right jaw, right shoulder, right
hip or thigh, right buttock, left jaw, left shoulder, left
hip or thigh and left buttock. Buttocks brands for horses
and mules are to be placed on either side of the tail head
and with the brand visible only from behind the animal.
Earmarks may also be indicated on the brand application
form. Variations such as a different earmark to be used
on sheep or a different location for a brand to be placed
on a separate species of animal may require additional fees
or even application for a separate brand.

Registration
Fee:
|
Registration
fee is $150.00 for the first type of animal and $50.00 for
each additional species. That is also the renewal fee for
10 years. In the past, all brands were renewed every ten
years in years ending with a five (1995, 2005, etc). Renewals
took place in the first two months of the year. After the
2005 renewals, the state is moving to a staggered renewal
so that every 2 years, about 20% of the brands will renew.
The renewal fee charged in 2005 will be pro-rated for those
brands designated to renew before the next 10 year period.
Brands not renewed by March 1st of their renewal year will
be considered abandoned and may be lost to the original
owners.
